This guide is here to help you find some delicious, convenient places to eat and some activities to do during your time at the BC Library Conference, May 11 – 13, 2016. There are more than 800 restaurants in Richmond, so this is not meant to be a comprehensive directory, but a list of some favourites close to the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Central Richmond, the nearby Golden Village and beautiful Steveston Village. Enjoy the conference!

Central Richmond

The BC Library Conference is conveniently situated in Central Richmond at No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway, across the street from the Richmond Centre and in the heart of Richmond City Centre, where you’ll find the Richmond Nature Park, the Olympic Oval and the main branch of the Richmond Public Library.

Richmond Centre is located right across the street from the conference – making it a very convenient place to shop and eat! Flagship stores include Hudson’s Bay and Sport Chek. The Richmond Centre has a  new Dining Terrace and features eating spots found around the mall. The mall opens at 9:30am Monday – Saturday and 11:00am on Sunday.

Green Lemongrass – A well-liked Vietnamese place very close to conference hotel at 8180 Westminster Highway.

Pepper LunchHotly anticipated Japanese DIY “fast-steak” lunch and dinner spot, where you cook your dinner to perfection on your own iron plate. Unit 150 – 5951 No. 3 Road.

White Spot – The Richmond Centre location of White Spot offers breakfast, lunch and dinner (8:00am-11:00pm) found on the East/Canada Line side of the mall. 1902-6551 No. 3 Road.

Kam Do Bakery – This Chinese bakery offers both sweet and savory treats for breakfast, lunch or snack. Located just outside the mall on the East side across from Brighouse Station. Ste 130-6211, No 3 Road.

Bob’s Subs – An inexpensive diner that serves no-nonsense meals like bacon and eggs, burgers and fries, fried chicken, and subs – right around the corner from the hotel. Suite 2 – 6390 No. 3 Road.

L’Opera Patisserie – This little French patisserie just opened and has been getting rave reviews for its macarons, pastries, sandwiches and tea. High Tea is also available by reservations at least 48 hours in advance. 153-5951 Minoru Boulevard (a storefront attached to the Marriott).

Dutch Pannekoek House – The Dutch Pannekoek house originated in Vancouver; however, this popular breakfast chain can be found one stop away from Brighouse at Lansdowne or a short walk away from the hotel. 8031 Leslie Road.

ABC Country Restaurant – This chain restaurant can be easily found by jumping on the Canada Line and taking the train one stop to Lansdowne or a short walk from the hotel. 3580 No 3 Road.

Flying Beaver Bar & GrillA pub with grub to match and a terrific view of the seaplanes terminal. 4760 Inglis Drive.

Golden Village

The Golden Village is home to 375-plus Asian restaurants, shopping malls, karaoke clubs, and more. This dynamic area can be found off of No. 3 Road from Lansdowne Station to Aberdeen Station on the Canada Line.

Aberdeen Centre is the epicentre of the Golden Village. Its flagship store is Daiso, Japan’s premier dollar store chain, which has a wide selection of stationary; Japanese cosmetics and candy; craft supplies and housewares. You’ll also find unique clothing shops, gift stores and a great Asian food court. Just two stops away from the Conference on the Canada Line at Aberdeen Station. 4151 Hazelbridge Way.

The Yaohan Centre is home to Osaka supermarket which provides a wide range of Chinese and Japanese food and household products. Also, it has Asian language bookstores, restaurants, arts & crafts, gifts and clothing stores. Lansdowne is a large mall with flagship stores including HomeSense, Zellers, Toys-R-Us and Future Shop. Parker Place rounds out the major malls in the area with a plethora of restaurants and shops.

Shanghai River Restaurant – Shanghainese food specializing in traditional shanghai pork dumplings and dim sum. Located down the street from the conference at 7831 Westminster Highway.

Dinesty Chinese Restaurant – Taiwanese food with such tasty dishes as beef noodle soup, shredded pork with hoisin sauce, and assorted dim sum items. Walking distance from the conference at 8111 Ackroyd Road.

4 Stones Vegetarian – a delicious Taiwanese vegetarian restaurant that is a stone’s throw away from the hotel. 7771 Westminster Highway.

Haroo Korean Homestyle Cuisine – A favourite spot for Korean cuisine in Richmond. The menu includes hot pot, seafood pancakes and Bulgogi Fried Rice. 8580 Alexandra Road.

Sakura Sushi – a highly rated sushi place that is next to Bob’s Subs and VERY close to the hotel. 6390 No. 3 Road.

No. 1 Shanghai Cuisine – delicious Shanghai cuisine that may just live up to its name. Found right off the Canada Line at Aberdeen Station. 4200 No. 3 Road.

Spicy Vegetarian Cuisine – the name says it all, although not all the food is spicy! Cash only. Found right off the Canada Line at Aberdeen Station. 132 – 4200 No. 3 Road.

Steveston

Located in the southwest corner of Richmond, B.C., is one of Vancouver’s most popular day trip getaways.  While still an active fishing centre, Steveston offers visitors the charm of a quaint village with the attractions of a truly unique tourist spot. You can try one of the many restaurants and cafes located along the wharf, search for antiques in the gift shops or learn about the history of the “town” by visiting the Steveston Museum and Post Office or the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site. For those who want to get out for a walk or ride, there is the big and beautiful Garry Point Park on the western edge of Steveston’s waterfront, which includes the West Dyke Trail and stunning views of the mountains and water.

Dave’s Fish and Chips & Pajo’s Fish and Chips are Steveston’s most popular and famous places for fish and chips. They offer traditional fish and chips, chowder, and burgers in the heart of historic Steveston. A great way to finish a brisk walk along the Dyke or walk around Garry Point Park!
