Volunteer at the BCLA Conference!

If you are interested in volunteering at the BC Library Conference, we are excited to hear from you! Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, network with the library community, catch-up with old friends, contribute to your Association… and attend conference sessions for free! 

Please note, this is a volunteer opportunity for BCLA Members only.  If you wish to become a member, please follow this link to register. If you are not sure whether you are a member, please email admin@bcla.bc.ca.

Volunteer and Convenor Opportunities

Volunteers are crucial to making the BCLA conference a success!  Volunteers help with:

  1. AGM Check-in
  2. Registration Desk
  3. BCLA Trade Show Table
  4. Directional Assistance (directing delegates to rooms and events)
  5. Session Convenors
  6. Transcriber

Volunteers are invited to attend conference sessions and events for the half of the day they are NOT volunteering. Convenors attend sessions and events on the day they are NOT convening. For more information about the specific opportunities available please see Role Descriptions below.

Volunteers and Convenor Shifts 

Volunteer shifts are approximately 4 hours;  Convenor shifts run 8:30 am – 4pm.

The following shifts are available, and can be selected when submitting your Volunteer Application Form.

To submit your volunteer application, visit: Volunteer Application Form. On the form, there is space for you to describe any experience you have had with conferences and/or related work, along with how comfortable you are meeting and greeting the public.

The deadline to submit the Volunteer Application Form is March 2, 2020.

All applicants will be notified by March 9, 2020 as to whether they have been selected. Thank you! Your contribution is essential to making the BCLA conference a success.

Role Descriptions

1. AGM Check-in Volunteers

Special skills needed: friendly, helpful personality, professional demeanour, attention to detail.

2. Registration Desk Volunteers

Special skills needed: friendly, helpful personality, ability to remain calm in hectic situations, professional demeanour, think on your feet.

3. BCLA Trade Show Table Volunteers

Special skills needed: friendly, helpful personality, professional demeanour, attention to detail.

4. Directional Volunteers

Special skills needed: friendly, helpful personality, professional demeanour, attention to detail.

5. Conference Session Convenors

Special skills needed and preferred: experience dealing with VIPs, professional demeanour, excellent organization, ability to remain calm in hectic situations, ability to think on your feet.

6. Transcriber

Special skills needed and preferred: strong listening skills, strong transcribing skills, accuracy, attention to detail
