{"id":54,"date":"2024-09-10T23:46:13","date_gmt":"2024-09-11T03:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/arc\/?page_id=54"},"modified":"2026-08-20T19:29:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T23:29:39","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/arc\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-racism Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Anti-racism-Commitee-Terms-of-Reference-updated-11-29-2024.pdf\">BCLA Anti-racism Committee Terms of Reference, approved November 29, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Committee Mandate<\/h2>\n<p>The BCLA Anti-racism Committee (ArC) will guide and inform BCLA\u2019s work to become an anti-racist organization by advising the Executive Director and making policy recommendations to the BCLA Board, guided by the Association\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/about\/constitution-and-by-laws\/\">constitution, bylaws<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/about\/mission-vision-values\/\">mission, vision, and values<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee is focused on anti-racism within the Association, and in doing so influences the larger library community.<\/p>\n<p>BCLA\u2019s ongoing work is grounded in our <a href=\"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/about\/mission-vision-values\/\">values<\/a> and guided by principles of anti-racism including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying and examining racism on a systemic, cultural, individual, and institutional level,<\/li>\n<li>Challenging underlying and normalized belief systems that uphold racism,<\/li>\n<li>Encouraging direct action on individual and collective levels,<\/li>\n<li>Developing an action plan to actively redress racism within our organization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ultimate approval of and responsibility for BCLA strategic direction and actions resides with the BCLA Board.<\/p>\n<h2>Committee Objectives<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Recommend prioritization of the recommendations for the <a href=\"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/bcla-current-state-assessment-report\/\">BCLA Current Assessment Report<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Identify additional recommendations as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Committee Members<\/h2>\n<p>More information about the committee members can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/arc\/anti-racsim-committee-members\/\">Anti-racism Committee Members page<\/a>.
