Panel Discussion

Implementing decolonization and Indigenization programs within the academic library context has been meaningful and difficult work for many years. We invite attendees to listen, learn, and engage during the panel discussion alongside expert library and information professionals embedded in this significant work. We will explore how individuals, institutions, and the field can contribute to the labour currently being done and elevate the practices of our colleagues to support these programs in the future.

Panelists:

  • Rachel Chong: Indigenous Engagement and Subject Liaison Librarian, Kwantlen Polytechnic University
  • Karleen Delaurier-Lyle: Information Services Librarian, Xwi7xwa Library First Nations House of Learning, University of British Columbia

All questions during the event will be moderated.

Lightning Talk Speakers:

  • Joyce Wong: User Experience Coordinator, Langara College Library and Learning Commons
  • Katherine Watmough: Access and User Services Librarian, Thompson Rivers University Libraries
  • Xaanja Free: Masters in Library Science Student, University of British Columbia
  • Hillary Webb: Systems and Technical Services Librarian, Emily Carr University Library
  • Sajni Lacey: Learning and Curriculum Support Librarian, University of British Columbia – Okanagan Library

Business Meeting

Please plan to stay for the afternoon BCALS Business Meeting in which we will have a round-table discussion and another opportunity to share brief updates and news from your institution which may not be covered in the lightning talks.

If you would like to share an update but are unable to attend, please contact the BCALS executive at [email protected]; we would be happy to share an update on your behalf.

Zoom connection details will be sent to all registrants prior to the event. We look forward to seeing you there!
