Please see the following link: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/video-library\/video\/1510\/view.html\">http:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/video-library\/video\/1510\/view.html<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>ALS 2015 December Meeting<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The 2015 December Academic Librarians Section meeting took place on December 4th in the Harbour Centre building at SFU Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year\u2019s December meeting was an exploration of the ways we work with our communities and collaborate with one another, whether librarian to faculty, librarian to student, library to library, library to community group, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the generous support of the SFU Library, the web cast of the Academic Librarians Section meeting was provided for those unable to join us in person.<\/p>\n<p>Schedule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>9:00 registration and coffee<\/li>\n<li>9:30-12:00 lightning talks and discussion<\/li>\n<li>12:00-1:00 lunch (included in the cost of registration)<\/li>\n<li>1:00-3:00 ALS meeting and round table<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nLightning Talks Speakers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Mary Anne MacDougall, UFV Library, \u201cWhat\u2019s Cooking at the University of the Fraser Valley Library\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Barbara Sobol &amp; Kim Partanen, UBC Okanagan Library, \u201cThe Inclusive Technology Lab at UBC Okanagan Library\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Christine Wald, University of Victoria Library, \u201cGoVikesGo: Using Open Access Academic Library Publications as Community Engagement Tools\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Eugene Barsky, UBC Library,\u00a0\u201cLong Live Math!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Kathleen Reed, VIU Library, \u201cResearch Methods Courses as a Site of Librarian-Disciplinary Faculty Partnerships\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Holly Hendrigan, SFU Library, \u201cThe Why and Wherefore of Librarians as Oral Historians\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Alex Garnett &amp; Carla Graebner, SFU Library, \u201cResearch Data: From Hot New Pile of Development Money to Stable Library Service\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Kathryn Neeley, Quest University Library, \u201cMaking Learning Common: Creating Curriculum-wide Program in Partnership\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Susan Atkey &amp; Heather de Forest, UBC Library and SFU Library, \u201cCross Commons Collaboration \u2013 Connecting, Sharing, and Inspiring Qualitative Research(ers) Across Campuses\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Workshop on the new ACRL\u00a0Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Capilano University, in partnership with\u00a0BCLA\u2019s Academic Librarians Section, hosted a one-day workshop on the new ACRL\u00a0<i>Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education<\/i>. The workshop took place on May 1, 2015 at Capilano\u00a0University in North Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>Through presentations, small-group work, and individual planning and reflection, the workshop will open up conversation around the following questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What theoretical concepts guided the creation of the new\u00a0<i>Framework<\/i>?<\/li>\n<li>How does the <i>Framework<\/i> compare to the <i>Information\u00a0Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education<\/i>\u00a0(2000)?<\/li>\n<li>What are the six \u201cframes\u201d?<\/li>\n<li>What are the first steps to implementing the\u00a0<i>Framework<\/i>\u00a0in our institutions?<\/li>\n<li>How will this impact student learning outcomes and the way we teach our classes?<\/li>\n<li>What new opportunities for collaboration and project work will the new <i>Framework<\/i>\u00a0present?<\/li>\n<li>As a community of practice, what is our commitment to the\u00a0<i>Framework<\/i>\u00a0and its role in teaching and learning?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This workshop is open to practitioners and students from across the information professions, and registration information will be available shortly.\u00a0Space will be\u00a0limited to 40 participants.<\/p>\n<p>We are also seeking event collaborators and one presenter for each of the six frames.
