Biennial BCLA Climate Benchmark:<\/span> 2026 Survey<\/span><\/h1>\n

Dear Library Leaders, we need your help.<\/b><\/p>\n

As you know, <\/span>BCLA is committed to supporting libraries in responding to the climate crisis<\/b> (see <\/span>BCLA Climate Emergency Declaration<\/span><\/a>). In 2024 we published 10 calls to action in our <\/span>BCLA Climate Action Statement: Essential Climate Justice Responsibilities in the Library Sector<\/span><\/a>. Our Climate Action Committee is now conducting a crucial next step by benchmarking BC library progress on climate.<\/span><\/p>\n

The catch? We can only measure what you report to us \u2013 so <\/span>we need <\/b>every <\/i><\/b>BC library<\/b> to contribute to this survey<\/b>. Whether you\u2019re doing a lot or a little, your contribution will help BCLA identify gaps \u2013 and articulate strengths \u2013 to climate response in BC libraries, as well as measure progress over time. You\u2019ll also help us identify ways to support you, and advocate on your behalf.<\/span><\/p>\n

    About the 2026 BC Libraries Climate Benchmarking Survey<\/b><\/h3>\n

    Here\u2019s what you need know, at a glance:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Intended to <\/span>measure climate <\/b>impacts on <\/i><\/b>and <\/b>actions of <\/i><\/b>BC libraries<\/b> over the previous two calendar years (i.e. 2024 and 2025) with planned repeat surveys every two years. (As this is the second survey, it represents our first true benchmarking comparison measure. )<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Includes <\/span>all types of libraries<\/b> (e.g. public, academic, school, special, library schools) and library associations (e.g. federations, consortia).<\/span><\/li>\n
    • One response per library\/organization location<\/b>, please.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Will take approximately <\/span>25 to 45 mins to complete for <\/b>each <\/i><\/b>library location<\/b>. We encourage you to delegate to local library leadership and welcome additional strategic-level submissions if needed (e.g. for larger systems). It\u2019s critical to hear from <\/span>every <\/span><\/i>library \u2013 and it\u2019s ok if you don\u2019t know the answers to all the questions.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • You <\/b>can <\/i><\/b>return to a partially complete submission <\/b>if <\/i><\/b>you accept all cookies<\/b>. We suggest testing this option on your device before relying upon it. There is also a <\/span>Back button.<\/b><\/li>\n
    • If you want to gather data from several staff, we suggest you <\/span>take notes using a printed PDF of the questions<\/b>, then one person can submit them all at once to the online collector.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Summary report will be published on the BCLA site<\/b>. Submissions will be <\/span>aggregated and anonymized<\/b> in reporting.<\/span><\/li>\n
