The day will open with a keynote speech from Shekhar Paleja.
Based in Vancouver, Shekhar Paleja has a BFA in Theatre from the University of Calgary. He’s acted in theatres across Canada including: Bard on the Beach, Arts Club, Vancouver Playhouse, CanStage, Touchstone Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Pi Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Globe Theatre, and National Centre of Performing Arts (India). A few Film & TV credits include recurring roles on Arctic Air, Arrow, Battlestar Galactica, Gracepoint, Motive, Sanctuary, Second Chance. Shekhar is also an award-winning author. He’s written two children’s books, and his latest novel, An Extraordinary Destiny, was published in 2017 by Brindle & Glass. For more information, visit www.paleja.ca
A panel featuring BC librarians and a selection of BC publishers will discuss the joys and challenges of publishing and promoting local stories. At breakout roundtables moderated by publishers, attendees will have the opportunity to delve deeper into topics of interest to them, including discovering BC books and authors, diversity and inclusion in book publishing, children’s publishing, audio and ebook issues, and more.
In between panels and sessions attendees can visit publisher book display tables and explore forthcoming books, ebooks, and audiobooks from the local publishing community. There will be wonderful giveaways including galleys, bookmarks, pins, and tote bags.
