BCLA stands with Teacher-Librarians in their support of diverse collections that reflect and affirm all students’ sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. We have been working with the BC Teacher-Librarians Association to ensure they are supported as their members face challenges to materials that support SOGI 123.
BCLA has signed the BCTLA’s open letter which states in part: “In the face of recent attacks, TLs stand together in support of the SOGI curriculum. We condemn any attacks against individual TLs or school library collections.”
We will continue to listen to and work with the BCTLA, who know best what is needed for their members and the students they serve and will share future developments and ways members of the library sector can support colleagues in school libraries.
