Update from BCLA President, Chris Middlemass

To BCLA members, Colleagues and the library community,

Thank you for your messages of support over the past week. We know that the uncertainties caused by COVID-19 create many personal,  professional and institutional challenges and know that your attention needs to be focused on those challenges. Thank you for looking after each other and for supporting our libraries, staff and communities.

In the coming weeks BCLA will complete the process of refunding conference registration fees and pre-conference/Professional Development Institute fees. We hope that this alleviates some of the anxiety we hear people have about receiving refunds.

We also hear that people are interested in continuing discussions focused on the even more timely conference theme “Libraries, Democracy and Action.” The BCLA staff are looking at possibilities for delivering some of the conference content in new formats in the months ahead.

We are currently looking for the best way to take the BCLA AGM online. We want the simplest method possible allowing for as many people as possible to participate in our annual meeting. As soon as we have a solution we will re-announce the AGM to members.

Along with all of you we anticipate many changes to our lives and our work in the coming weeks. Such changes can be both exhilarating and devastating and each of us will experience this time differently. We hope you can take some comfort in knowing you are part of a resilient, innovative, and caring library community.

Our best wishes for good health to all of you from the BCLA Board and staff.
