Keeping it\u00a0<\/i>ReAL<\/i>\u00a02018: Add it Up<\/i>\u00a0is a free workshop for academic library research in BC. Our aim is to foster a research culture among participants, and create an open and supportive network for learning, sharing, and supporting academic research.<\/p>\n

Building on the Canadian Association of\u00a0Research Libraries\u2019\u00a0Librarians\u2019 Research Institute<\/a>, the\u00a0ReAL<\/i>\u00a0(Research in Academic Libraries) committee was established in 2016 with the purpose of organizing a regional workshop for BC academic librarians interested in conducting research. In 2017,\u00a0Keeping<\/i>\u00a0it\u00a0<\/i>ReAL<\/i>\u00a0focused on skill building in the beginning and planning stages of research.<\/p>\n

On Friday October\u00a026th\u00a02018 at the University of Victoria,\u00a0Keeping it\u00a0<\/i>ReAL<\/i>: Add it Up<\/i>\u00a0will address issues related to the next stages of the research process. This conference will help take research to the next level with presentations on advancing research, research methods workshops hosted by UBC iSchool faculty, and a panel on Indigenous research methods.<\/p>\n

Keeping it\u00a0<\/i>ReAL<\/i>\u00a0began as a partnership between Heather O\u2019Brien, Associate Professor from UBC\u2019s iSchool, and librarians from SFU,\u00a0UVic, and UBC, including Holly\u00a0Hendrigan, Christine Walde, Erin Fields, and Jo-Anne Naslund. Since then it has grown and many other librarians have contributed to both the organizing committee and the conference. Feedback on\u00a0Keeping<\/i>\u00a0it\u00a0<\/i>ReAL<\/i>\u00a0<\/i>has been overwhelmingly positive. REAL committee members for 2018\u00a0include:\u00a0Helen Brown (UBC), Julia Bullard (UBC iSchool), Dean Giustini (UBC), Aditi Gupta (UVic), Ryan Kyle (LaSalle College), Ioana Liuta (UBC iSchool, SFU), Alison Moore (SFU), and Christine Walde (UVic).<\/p>\n
