{"id":7066,"date":"2018-09-06T12:04:43","date_gmt":"2018-09-06T19:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bclaconnectrev.wpengine.com\/perspectives\/?p=7066"},"modified":"2025-01-22T11:25:55","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T19:25:55","slug":"the-technology-issue-a-letter-from-the-editors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/perspectives\/2018\/09\/06\/the-technology-issue-a-letter-from-the-editors\/","title":{"rendered":"The Technology Issue: A letter from the Editors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a few technical issues of our own (seriously, why is uploading an image so hard?), welcome to the BCLA\u00a0Perspectives\u00a0Techology issue!<\/p>\n<p>This issue is divided into two sections: the results of the\u00a0second annual Perspectives survey and articles generously\u00a0written by contributors around the theme of technology.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bclaconnect.ca\/perspectives\/2018\/09\/05\/introduction-to-the-technology-survey\/\">survey subsection<\/a><\/strong> showcases the results of the survey, in which\u00a0144 respondents took the time to help us better understand the technological issues, interests, and frustrations facing libraries and library workers.<\/p>\n<p>Our contributors this issue share a wealth of tech-focused insights, from experiences and lessons learned while developing digital collections and sustaining lending programs to fun and productive tech tools to enhance your work. Plus,\u00a0they cover\u00a0resources\u00a0like events, important guidelines for accessibility, and digital repositories.<\/p>\n<p>We enjoy hearing from you, so if you have any feedback\u00a0or additional perspectives to contribute, comment at the bottom of an\u00a0article to keep the conversation going.<\/p>\n<p>Perspectives is also pleased to welcome a new editor to our team,\u00a0Tammie Mercado (MAS\/MLIS). Tammie joined the library profession after graduating from UBC in 2012. Before that, she spent several years in social services work. She is passionate about public librarianship and reducing barriers to library service.\u00a0 Professional interests include: collections, readers\u2019 advisory, digital services, and staff training.\u00a0 She also loves statistics, and is always on the lookout for numbers to crunch. Born and raised in BC, Tammie has also lived in Edmonton and New Mexico. She is a film buff and tries to watch one movie a day.
