We’re All in This Together by Amy Jones
This family drama is set in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The matriarch of the dysfunctional Parker family plunges over Kakabeka Falls in a barrel and survives, but is in a coma. This event pushes the strong-willed Parkers to examine events in the past that have shaped their present lives.
Shelter by Jung Yun
Jung Yun’s Shelter is an intense and gripping read. The main character Kyung’s parents are victims of a violent home invasion. From there, family secrets are revealed as Kyung struggles to come to terms with feelings of guilt, shame, and anger. Shelter is beautifully written, disturbing yet evocative, and will haunt you long after you’ve finished.
Embers: One Ojibway’s Meditations by Richard Wagamese
Acclaimed Canadian author Richard Wagamese is Ojibway from the Wabaseemoong First Nation. In Embers he invites readers into the coming light at the break of dawn with an offering of a carefully selected series of daily reflections.
