The Keeping it ReAL 2024 organizing committee and BC Academic Libraries Section (BCALS) are happy to announce that registration for the event is now open! Our complementary virtual events will take place on November 14 and 15, 2024.
Registration is free and open to everyone. You can register for just one of the days or join us for both days. Both events are entirely virtual.
Thursday November 14, 2024, 1:00pm – 5:00pm PST
Day one will be hosted by Keeping it ReAL (Research in Academic Libraries) and will explore how librarian research fosters community engagement and relationships, aiming to reimagine research as a collaborative, community-centered, and impactful practice.
KiR is excited to announce Leslie Chan as our keynote! In his presentation “Open Scholarship – Resisting Knowledge Commodification and Embracing Diverse Ecologies,” Leslie will examine the impact of privatization in academic publishing on global knowledge equity, revealing how commercial interests marginalize non-Eurocentric and community-based knowledge, and will highlight community-governed, open scholarship initiatives that promote diverse, inclusive knowledge systems.
Details and the full program of events can be found on the event website: Keeping it ReAl 2024
Friday November 15, 2024, 9:30am – 12:00pm PST
Day two is the Knowledge and Idea Exchange 2024 hosted by BCALS.
Previously known as the “Winter Event”, the Knowledge and Idea Exchange 2024 is a synchronous discussion and presentation forum for librarians, archivists, library workers, and students. Our aim is to promote the exchange of ideas among academic library workers and to provide a network of professional expertise resulting in excellent service in the post-secondary libraries of British Columbia, using the latest methods, systems, and technologies.
