ANNUAL BC LIBRARY CONFERENCE
The BC Library Conference is a great opportunity to volunteer, and in return attend conference sessions for free. This is a chance to meet new people, catch up with old friends, and to hear about those issues and trends that are shaping the thinking and actions throughout the library sector. If you are interested in volunteering, we are excited to hear from you! Each year conference volunteer opportunities are announced sometime in late January/early February, on Branches: BCLA’s Online Forum.
MENTORSHIP
Experienced library professional? Interested in challenging, encouraging and informing new members of our library community? Be a mentor!
The BCLA Mentorship Program seeks to connect and empower. How? By fostering positive mentor/mentee relationships within the library community. Share your experience. Great mentors are library professionals from all libraries types and all position levels.
Membership in BCLA is encouraged but not a pre-requisite for mentors wishing to participate in the program. For more information, please email the Mentorship Program coordinators.
SECTIONS, COMMITTEES, INTEREST GROUPS, AND SECTIONS (SCIGS)
BCLA members can find opportunities to explore their interests through the Association’s Sections, Committees, and Interest Groups (SCIGs). SCIGs represent some of the most current thinking and debate on overarching library issues. BCLA encourages member participation in SCIGs to compliment experiences in the work environment, provide perspectives and opinions on diverse subjects, and add to the diversity and strength of the Association.
To find out how you can get involved, connect directly with the SCIGS that interest you! You will find current contact information on each of the SCIG sub-sites listed in the left-hand menu here BCLA Member Groups
BC SUMMER READING CLUB (BC SRC)
Content Creators
Each fall a team of Content Creators from all over the province set about building the BC SRC Manual. During the dark days of autumn, these creative folks dream up sunny programs, activities, and booklists for libraries to use during the BC Summer Reading Club. Read more on the BC SRC website. If you and your library are interested in participating, please contact the Provincial Coordinator, Stephanie Usher.
Co-Chairs
The BC SRC Co-Chairs help to select the annual artist and work with the committee to develop the theme, materials, and SRC manual. In addition, they help select the SRC Community Story Award winner, attend the BCLA conference (registration is paid for BC SRC) and assist at the BC SRC booth. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, we would love to hear from you! Please contact the Provincial Coordinator, Stephanie Usher to find out how to apply!
