The British Columbia Library Association leads the library community in advocacy, professional development, and support of intellectual freedom. Membership in BCLA is open to everyone engaged in library, archival, or information work or studies, as well as anyone who is a current or past member of a library board or is retired from a career in library, archival or information work.
Your membership helps to support BCLA’s provincial and federal advocacy on important topics such as copyright, climate action, and funding for libraries.
Our members also receive exclusive discounts on the annual BC Library Conference and other education events. Individual and Institution Members receive voting privileges for the AGM, and may serve on a BCLA division. Members have access to a variety of perks and discounts, supporting your personal and professional success.
BCLA Member-only Benefits include:
BCLA Subsidized Coaching Program: This pilot project provides access to subsidized professional coaching services for BCLA individual members (not available to institutional members). Professional coaching provided through this pilot program aims to boost an individual’s confidence, improve relationships, increase self-awareness, as well as assist with conflict resolution and effect meaningful change. This access to coaching is meant to provide BCLA members opportunities for individual reflection and active experimentation, resulting in personal and professional growth. The BCLA coaching pilot project subsidizes fifty percent of the cost of each coaching session for up to ten sessions per client. The cost for each session is $130, with BCLA members paying only $65.00 per session and BCLA paying the balance.
BC Library Conference: Each year the BC Library Association presents an annual conference, offering opportunities for inspiration, professional growth and development, and networking with vendors and colleagues. It is an opportunity for the BC library community to come together to strengthen existing relationships, forge new connections and collectively celebrate our work. BCLA members attend the annual BC Library Conference at a reduced member rate.
Mentorship Program: The BCLA Mentorship Program exists to connect and empower Association members by fostering positive relationships in the library community. The program encourages sharing, and aims to promote leadership and commitment to the profession.
Freedom to Read Posters: As a benefit to our Institutional Members, each year we provide Freedom to Read posters free of charge. If you were to order these posters directly, the cost would be $12 per poster, plus taxes, plus and S&H ($9 per order of 1-6 posters). BCLA orders posters from the Book and Periodical Council of Canada and makes these available to Institutional Members on a first-come-first-served basis, at no cost to the institution. Watch for the email inviting your order in January each year.
Perkopolis: Canadian-owned and operated, Perkopolis is a free program that provides exclusive discounts on entertainment, travel and shopping, gift card rewards, enhanced insurance benefits and other value-added perks for BCLA individual members (not available to institutional members).
