Stand Informed Workshop

Thanks to the recommendation of Courthouse Libraries BC, we have a presentation from Stand Informed legal advice services (operated by Community Legal Assistance Society), who provide brief, confidential legal advice service for people who have experienced sexual assault in BC. Stand Informed takes a holistic, trauma-informed approach to helping clients. They are also involved in community consultation and law reform projects around gender-based violence. This session is one-hour with a 15-minute Q&A, and is sure to be informative, whether we are in our role as a library worker serving the public, or as a co-worker, friend and family member.

Full Title: Stand Informed Legal Advice: a BC service for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence

Description: Library staff can often become trusted resources by members of the public and the library itself a safe space and refuge. With this in mind, we want to empower library staff to be knowledgeable and prepared when a request for help related to sexual assault or domestic violence presents itself. In this presentation, participants will learn how people who have experienced sexual assault in BC can access free brief legal advice through the Stand Informed legal advice services. The presenters will explain how the program works, how to make a referral, and outline some of the legal options available to survivors in BC. The presenters will also share some tips and best practices for supporting people who have experienced assault, and some additional services in BC, thanks to Courthouse Libraries BC.

When: Wednesday, April 9th at 10:30am-11:45am PST on Zoom

Who should attend: All library workers (please note that discussion related to sexual assault may be triggering for some)

Registration is now closed.
