Generative AI Research Basics

Presenter:  Rich McCue is the Digital Scholarship Commons Manager at the University of Victoria.

Description: This session is designed as a gentle introduction to Generative AI (GenAI) as well as being an exploration of the emerging potential and pitfalls of GenAI tools designed for academic research. During the workshop, we will explore and evaluate a variety of GenAI tools, and the session will also include an optional introductory prompt design activity. The introduction will be followed by more in-depth activities to better understand the use of GenAI tools designed specifically to assist library workers in the literature review process.

When: Thursday, May 22nd at 1:30pm – 3:00pm on Zoom

Who should attend: This workshop is for all library staff no matter how familiar they are with GenAI tools, but it will be a basic, entry-level introduction on research utilizing AI.
