Theme
The theme of this year’s BC Library Conference, Be Curious: Think, Share, Discover has such relevance for us in the information profession. As a library science student, I recall our Dean asking us what we thought was the important skill of a library professional. Feeling daunted by the variety of suggestions, I was elated when he indicated the most important skill was curiosity.
As we grapple with economic uncertainty, continuous change in technology affecting ways service can be delivered and the kind of space we need to deliver what our users want, our curiosity becomes the foundation for us to think, share and discover.
This conference offers a plethora of opportunities for the curious mind to consider issues – at the Preconference, at the Keynote, at the Plenary, at the Conference sessions, at the Exhibits, at the Birds-of-a-Feather sessions, at the Social Events and Meetings. encourage all of you whether you are able to drop in to a unregistered Birds-of-a Feather session, attend a preconference session, or a day or two of sessions and the exhibits, to engage your curiosity, and use the time to think, share and discover with others. I know I plan to come away from our annual conference having engaged with speakers, exhibitors, and many of you in discovering new ways to approach issues, use technology, or plan, deliver, evaluate, and assess what we do each day.
Welcome, enjoy, and be curious!
